Bulletin Announcements - March 7, 2010

Assistive Hearing Devices Are Available at Every Worship Service The sound system includes five assistive hearing devices, which are available for your use.  These are wireless receivers with a single earpiece.  They are easy to use and very unobtrusive – your fellow congregants are unlikely to notice that you're using one.  If you're interested in giving one of our assistive hearing devices a try, just ask an usher for one when you enter the sanctuary.  Hearing aids should be removed before using the church's assistive device. Please remember to return the earpiece and the receiver to an usher at the end of worship, so that we can clean it and have it ready the next time you or someone else wants to use it.  Thanks!

We, the members of Central Lutheran Church, affirm that Christ has made us one body with many members, all sharing in God's wondrous grace and unconditional love.  We celebrate both the human variation and inclusive unity of God's family.  Following Jesus' example, we embrace all of God's people, regardless of ethnicity, physical and mental abilities, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or economic circumstance.  With welcoming hearts, we invite you to join us in worship, fellowship, and ministry.

Note:  The Stephen Ministry Program at Central Lutheran Church is seeking caring women and men who are interested in exploring the possibility of becoming active Stephen Ministers within our congregation.  The Stephen Ministry program, which has been active at Central for nearly thirty years, is a distinctively Christian service of one-to-one caring lay ministry for those who are in need of a listening, caring and spiritually supportive caregiver for a period of time.  A new Stephen Ministry training program, which will prepare new caregivers for this service, will begin at Central in mid-April.  If you are interested in exploring this ministry--or if you have questions about it, we encourage you to talk with Kathy Howe or Stan Paine, new Stephen Leaders at Central, with Becky Kaiser or Mary Jacobson, long-time program leaders at Central, or with Pastor Kegel about it.  We will also be offering an informational session about Stephen Ministry at the PACE hour on April 11, which we encourage you to attend.  In the remaining weeks of Lent, we will be providing a series of testimonials from current Stephen Ministers at CLC and vignettes about realistic Stephen Ministry needs and the kind of support they receive from the program.  Here is the first testimonial in that series.

If I could use only one word to describe my experience as a Stephen Minister, it would have to be the word Connection. Because I have spent the past few years learning from and growing with my fellow Stephen Ministers, I have developed a unique and lasting connection to each of them.  When a care receiver shares herself and her story with me, I feel  a deep and powerful connection flowing between us.  And when  I humbly ask God to guide me in my role as a Stephen minister, I seek the connection of his grace and guidance.  These connections have opened my heart and nourished my faith, and through them I see evidence of God's love working in my life.      Linda Vik
