Where is Christus House?
Christus House is located at 1834 Potter St, near the southwest corner of the University of Oregon campus. It is close to campus classrooms and athletic facilities, with shops and grocery stores nearby. The neighborhood is a blend of established residential homes and Greek housing. Central Lutheran Church is directly across the street and welcomes the residents to join in worship, church activities, and social events.
Why choose Christus House?
Christus House combines the best aspects of dormitory and independent living. While each resident has a private room, they participate in House events such as retreats, faith formation, work parties, and meetings. Each individual room is furnished and includes wifi. Laundry facilities are on-site. The spacious kitchen is fully equipped with appliances, and each student is provided with storage space. The dining, living, and recreation areas are comfortably furnished – perfect both for study and for social time.
As a ministry of Central Lutheran Church, Christus House is also what is known as “Reconciling in Christ.” This designation indicates our commitment to safety for and celebration of all children of God in their various identities (ethnic/racial, gender/sex/sexuality, ability, economic status, etc). While we know sin causes us to stumble in achieving the fullness of this vision, we are actively engaged in educating ourselves and always being made new in this commitment to all God’s beloved.
Who may apply for residency?
Christus House residents undergraduate and graduate students whose commitment to residence in the House for the academic year also includes a commitment to their fellow residents and growth in Christian faith and life. Further information may be requested by contacting Sister Clare at firstname.lastname@example.org. Upon receipt of your application, Sister Clare will contact you about next steps, which include a coffee conversation, tour of Christus House, and background check before final acceptance.
Admission is ongoing unless our maximum occupancy has been met.
NOTE: The University of Oregon has initiated a freshman live-on requirement effective Fall 2017. University Housing has indicated that there is a process in place for individuals to apply for an exemption to this requirement. We recommend talking to your housing or admissions representative about this process as soon as possible. You can find out more about the freshman live-on requirement here.
